Gartner BPM Summit 2011 Reflections

Gartner BPM Summit last week in Baltimore was a true success by any objective measure.  Gartner deserves a lot of credit for putting together an outstanding event.   The analyst, solution provider, and end-user sessions were all top-notch.  What stood out for me the most at the Summit, however, was the positive vibe of the attendees.   I had the opportunity to speak to a number of them in the booth as well as between the sessions, and all of my conversations were positive and optimistic about the BPM outlook for next year and beyond.

We were very proud to have Shane Williams from one of our key customers, UBS, present The BPM Transformation Story at UBS.  Shane discussed how UBS uses Interstage BPM to meet regulatory compliance, mitigate risk, and improve customer onboarding experience.  Using Interstage BPM, UBS has been able to “automate client onboarding, improve risk analysis, ensure process compliance in a complex regulatory environment, and save 30% in TCO”.  The session was well-attended and judging by the number of people lingering afterwards to ask more questions despite the late hour, it was a success. PaaS Outlook for 2011 from IDC Directions 2011

March 23, 2011 1 comment

Last week I attended the IDC Directions 2011 in San Jose.  Every session was very well put together, informative,  and relevant.  I found the “PaaS Outlook 2011: Battle to Control the Next Great Solutions Ecosystem” by Stephen Hendrick particularly relevant to the BPM world. Here are some of the highlights from his presentation.

Stephen discussed the PaaS Vendor Ecosystem and categorized the vendors along the key dimensions: Public Paas, Private PaaS, App Marketplace, Process Composition, and ALM.  Fujitsu got the highest marks on Public and Private PasS, and perhaps most rewardingly, Process Composition (BPMS essentially).   Interstage BPM and our Cloud offerings, backed by the multi-tenant architecture, were mentioned as key reasons for the strong ranking.  Surprisingly enough, Google and Salesforce didn’t rank as highly as I expected, mainly due to the lack of Process Composition and Private Cloud capabilities.

EPCOR on Achieving Compliance with BPM – Webinar Recap

March 18, 2011 Leave a comment

We recently held a webinar with our key customer, EPCOR, on achieving compliance with BPM.  Judging by the turn-out and level of interest shown by attendees, compliance through BPM continues to be an important topic across a wide spectrum of companies and industries.  Given this high level of interest, I’d like to highlight some of the key points presented by EPCOR.

EPCOR is one of Canada’s leading electricity providers, with more than 330,000 commercial and residential accounts and 38 electricity retailers.  Like many other companies, EPCOR was facing a number of regulatory changes due to the deregulations introduced to foster competition in the market.   EPCOR senior management concluded that they needed to make changes.  They recognized that BPM solution would help comply with new regulatory requirements and enable EPCOR to react and respond quickly to future regulatory and business changes.

After consulting with Gartner BPM Magic Quadrant and conducting subsequent evaluation, EPCOR selected Interstage BPM product.

“Fujitsu out-of-the-box BPM solution proved to be the best fit for EPCOR”

By adopting Interstage BPM product, EPCOR has realized a number of Development, Testing, Operational, and Business benefits.
